Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

By Stephen Hartrick There are quite a lot of powerful fat burning foods around and most of them you most likely are already eating as part of your meals everyday, if your not then you should be! I am not going to list all the fat burning foods in this article but what i will do is list 10 powerful fat burning foods for you to take a look at, which the majority of them should already be in your kitchen. Here they are in no particular order. 1) Apples Well the doctors and our grandparents have been trying for years to tell us how healthy apples are for you plus they have a fat burning effect on your body as well, double whammy! 2) Broccoli Broccoli is one of the few foods in the vegetable category that i really love and a good source of minerals as well. 3) Brussel Sprouts There are quite a few people around that love brussel sprouts and i am not one of them, but you can not argue that they are good for you and, hey if they shed a few pounds in the process as well then it can only be good . 4) Cabbage Not a surprise this one really, obviously that is where the cabbage diet idea came from although i would not call that a diet myself, what i would call it is a bit extreme. 5) Carrots Good old carrots! Apart from improving your night vision they also help to keep you lean and mean. nice one! 6) cauliflower Another one that i am not very keen on, but better start adding it to the plate and start melting that unsightly fat away. 7) celery People usually dip celery into some sort of salad dip or even sprinkle salt all over it before eating it, but to get the fat burning effect then i think you need to eat it without all the junk covering it. 8) Oranges I love oranges i could eat them all day long! 9) Onions They might make your breath smell but its worth it, at the end of the day every little helps. 10) garlic Now were talking! keep the vampires away and lose weight while your doing it, you can not ask for anything more! Obviously its the combination of the above foods that will help in your fight to burn that fat off your body, please do not go to the extreme and start living off just one of the items on the list because in the long run you most likely will not be able to keep it up and even if you do its not going to do your body or health any good either. What you need is a sensible combination of the fat burning foods into your everyday eating habit and that combined with a good weekly exercise program will start to melt the fat of a lot quicker than you think and then you really will call them powerful fat burning foods as well! Coming Soon? Super Bread from Turned-On Wheat Genes

Friday, August 10th, 2007

By Sarah Sandori Here’s good news on the nutrition front … that is, if you’re not on a strict low-carb diet and do not fear genetically modified food. It seems that scientists in California have discovered how to “unlock” a gene in domestic wheat seeds that increases the plant’s nutritional value. Called Gpc-B1 (can’t they come up with sexier names for these things?), this gene can increase the iron, zinc and protein levels in the wheat kernels. The scientists, who are associated with the Agricultural Research Service’s Western Regional Research Center, based in Albany, California, hope their discovery will lead to improving the health of millions of malnourished people around the world. It could also improve the health of people in developed countries such as the U.S. where people generally are already getting their caloric needs met. The scientists discovered Gpc-B1 in a wild type of wheat that grows in the Middle East, then they figured out that the gene controlled the level of iron, zinc and protein in the plant. Next they discovered that cultivated wheat has this same gene, only it is nonworking–”turned off.” By sticking a cloned copy of the gene into cultivated wheat seeds, they found they could boost those critical nutrients by anywhere from 10 to 15 percent. Pretty soon, some farmers could be growing wheat varieties that incorporate the cloned Gpc-B1 gene. But it’s too soon to know when you’ll be able to buy a loaf of bread made from naturally nutrition-enhanced wheat. My diet already includes a wide range of 100-percent whole wheat breadstuffs, from cereal to pita pockets to tortillas to sandwich loafs. I am not one who can easily give up bread, but at least I know that my bread choices are near the top, nutritionally speaking. I look forward to being able to buy bread that is even better for me and my family, thanks to this breakthrough on the genetic front. Log Home Designs - Basic Concepts

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

By David Buster Log home designs can be divided in several ways. Understanding log home designs and basic concepts can help you select the design that is best for you. As you are getting involved in the design process, consider these basic concepts as they apply to your design: Shape of Log Used - the logs used in your log home can be shaped in various ways. They can be full round, D-shaped, square shaped, rectangular shaped or Swedish cope style. D-shaped logs will have one side of the log flat with the other three sides being rounded. The Swedish cope style has a portion of the bottom of the log cut out so that the log rests more securely on the log beneath it in the wall. Type of Log Wood - there are many wood species commonly used in log home designs. There is no such thing as a “best” wood to use, rather, each species has advantages and disadvantages. Wood types include cedar, cypress, Douglas fir, hemlock, lodgepole pine, oak, spruce, white pine and yellow pine. If log home designs, construction and maintenance are done properly, any of these woods will provide many decades of enjoyable log home living. If not designed, built and maintained properly, none of the woods will hold up very well. Peeled or Milled Logs - peeled logs used in log home designs will have the bark and outer sapwood removed. This can be accomplished by hand or by the mill’s machinery. Milled logs are run through machines that will create the desired log shape when finished. The log surfaces will be more smooth and uniform in milled logs. Corner Systems Used - here are the four main corner systems used in log home designs: 1. Butt-and-Pass - these corners are formed when one log stops where it meets the intersecting log, and the other log extends past the corner. There are many variations involving the shape of the area where the logs butt. Usually the passing logs have a cutout into which the butt log fits. 2. Dovetail Corners - these corners are used mostly with square or rectangular logs. The end of each log is cut in such a way that produces a fan-shaped wedge. As the logs are stacked, the ends of one walls logs will be locked into the perpendicular logs. 3. Notched - notched corners are also known as saddle-notch. A saddle-shaped notch is cut into the bottom of each round log so that this notch on the bottom of the top log straddles the top of the log coming from the perpendicular wall. Both logs then extend past the corner. The saddle-notch is one of the most traditional corner intersections used in log home designs and is favored by many handcrafters. These type of corners are very strong, but they do require more construction time. Notched corners are also easier to seal and hold corner logs better than butt-and-pass. 4. Post Corners - the log ends are cut off perpendicular to the length of the log and joined at the corners using what amounts to vertical posts. This type of construction is not as labor intensive. This corner style sacrifices some of the traditional log cabin or log home look. Using post corners will require a different engineering treatment than other log corners, because the vertical posts do not settle with the horizontal logs. One of the best ways to learn more about log home designs is to view log home plans that have been successfully built. Every plan that you examine can give you design ideas that you had not thought of. Trying to create brand new plans from scratch can be time-consuming and expensive. You can save considerably if you can find great plans that exist that you like. Just be sure the plans service can make changes to the plans so they become exactly what you want. That way, you really can create the log home design that will provide you many years of enjoyment. Louisiana Mesothelioma Lawyers

Monday, August 6th, 2007

By Eric Morris Mesothelioma is a serious disease caused by breathing asbestos, which is the name given to a number of naturally occurring fibrous silicate minerals that are essential for their useful properties. Asbestos can only be identified under a microscope. It is made up of microscopic bundles of fibers that may become airborne when distributed. These fibers get into the air and may become inhaled into the lungs, where they may cause significant health problems. Asbestos affects the chest, the abdomen and the heart of the person who is exposed to it.. Exposure to asbestos may cause lung cancer. It must be noted that a Mesothelioma lawsuit must be filed within a certain period of time as required by the Statute of Limitations. The time period varies from state to state. While hiring a lawyer to file a lawsuit for Mesothelioma, care should be taken to see that the prospective lawyer is not only a specialist in this area, but is a thorough professional who can empathize with the client and works for him in a caring, understanding and respectful manner. A person who has been diagnosed with an asbestos-related malady can file a Mesothelioma lawsuit. Legal action must be taken when a person feels the symptoms of the disease, such as chest pain and pain in the lower back, difficulty breathing, coughing, weight loss, fever, muscle weakness, swelling of the face and arms, hoarseness, and night sweats. In most cases, the statute of limitations for filing a lawsuit is one or two years from the date a person is diagnosed with the disease or, in the case of a wrongful death, the date that a person died of Mesothelioma. It is important to contact a Mesothelioma lawyer before the statute of limitations passes. Your lawyer can protect your rights and represent your interests. A specialist lawyer can tell you that several areas of personal injury law may apply to your case, such as product liability, professional malpractice and wrongful death. Before hiring a lawyer, you must visit your local law center or library to see if he has actually won cases pertaining to Mesothelioma. It would be better to ask for references from those who had already filed lawsuits through him, to find out his success rate, fees and general conduct. A written contract must be signed before entrusting your case to him, so as to avoid any future misunderstandings. Two good resources for finding qualified mesothelioma lawyers in Louisiana include: AllLaw.com and the Louisiana State Bar Association (www.lsba.org). Louisiana Lawyers provides detailed information about Louisiana lawyers, Louisiana probate lawyers, Louisiana real estate lawyers, Louisiana divorce lawyers and more. Louisiana Lawyers is the sister site of New Jersey Business Lawyers. What’s Up With These Flashy Vacuum Cleaners?

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

By Martin White For most people, a vacuum cleaner is not really a very inspiring object. Let’s face it, you don’t really care how it works and you probably do not even want to endure the chore of vacuuming in the first place. However, almost everyone who doesn’t want to live in a pig-sty needs one (note: students need not apply!). Recently, however, things have begun to change. People’s attitudes are changing. Vacuum cleaners are becoming interesting and it’s all thanks to a guy called James Dyson, inventor of the Dyson vacuum cleaner. Thanks to Dyson, vacuum cleaners have taken on a personality and life all of their own. The same tactics employed by the likes of Apple to successfully ply their iMacs and iPods to the mass population (think: design and color) have now been used to great effect in the vacuum cleaner industry. And with the same results; the proliferation of styles, colors and the general level of gadgetry associated with these newfangled vacuum cleaners (the new Dyson DC15 has 182 patents filed for it), not to mention the clean lines and chic design, means that you no longer have to hide it away in the back of a darkened cupboard. It can become a design statement in its own right, and even a topic of conversation at a dinner party. It may be sad, but it’s very, very true. Premium vacuum cleaners, as they’ve become known, are all the rage and models like those in the Dyson range are bizarrely becoming the next “must-have” purchase for the hip-and-trendy crowd! Let’s break down the decision that faces the would-be purchaser of one of these premium vacuum cleaners. First, you have the choice between the upright or cylinder (canister) versions. The uprights require you to use them in the traditional push-and-pull fashion, although the latest offering from Dyson, the DC15, has even turned this on its head with its “The Ball” technology, which lets it glide effortlessly around your house in any direction you please. The canisters on the other hand come with a hose attachment for greater flexibility and control you can easily and accurately get into all the hard to reach places. There’s not really much difference between the two and it’s mainly down to personal preference, although the upright vacuum is probably best suited to large carpeted areas. Second, you should consider the power of the motor and the efficiency of the filtration system. Allergy suffers in particular should pay close attention to the filtration. Dyson has been very successful by marketing the benefits of its patented “Cyclone” technology which does not suffer a deterioration in suction like traditional vacuum cleaners, because there is no bag or filter to get clogged up (which is the main cause of diminishing performance). So, if you’re looking for a vacuum cleaner that will always deliver maximum efficiency, you can’t really go far wrong with a new Dyson like the Dyson D14 or the newer Dyson DC15. Of course if you are really feeling super adventurous, you want to stay ahead of the curve and you happen to have some spare cash burning a hole in your pocket, you could opt for one of the increasingly popular robot vacuum cleaners such as the ZA01 from Electrolux or the cheaper iRobot from Roomba. While you busy yourself at work all day, this gizmo will scuttle around your house of its own accord, vacuuming it’s little heart out so the place looks spic-and-span for when you get home! It even has the smarts to return to its “base” when it’s running low on battery power in order to recharge itself! So you see, something that is perceived to be boring the humble vacuum cleaner - can actually be quite interesting when you look into it. What you may think of as the purchase of a necessary, almost commodity, item can actually turn out to be a technology purchase or a design statement that will keep you way ahead of the curve. I wonder if Daniel Hess, who filed the original patent for the “hoover” back in 1860, had any idea how his invention would turn out 150 years later? Budget Leftovers

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

By Terry Rigg It is extremely difficult to setup a budget, especially when you are behind on some of your bills. Even if you can make your regular bills and expenses fit neatly into your budget, what can you do if you don’t have the money to catch up? I have listed several methods and circumstances below that may help manage setting up your budget and begin to pay those overdue bills. Since there are as many different budgets as there are people that try to set them up, this list may not be all inclusive. It may, however, give you some ideas that will fit your individual problem. Unless you don’t have any income at all, there are a couple of things that should never be late. Your rent or house payment and utilities should be paid first, even at the expense of other bills. This is simply a matter of survival. The first thing you need to do when setting up a budget is to determine how much actual take home income you have. Then determine the amount of your normal bills and expenses. The Complete Budget and Bill Organizerhttp://www.homemoneyhelp.com/BBOonline.html explains this in greater detail and provides forms to put it on paper. The below methods assume that you have enough money to cover your normal bills and expenses but have some bills that have an amount that is overdue: When you are setting up your budget and have overdue bills you need to cut your expenses to the bare bones. This doesn’t mean going without food. However, there are many ways to cut back on expenses. You can find hundreds of them by visiting my Budget Stretcher Partner sites listed at http://www.homemoneyhelp.com. You should always make the initial contact to the company any time you aren’t able to pay a bill on time. Once you have your budget setup, see if there is any money left over to start paying the amount that is behind. If you do have some money left over, when you contact the company, find out if they will accept paying a little extra each month, without penalty, until the overdue amount is paid in full. Contact a your local Consumer Credit Counseling Service. You can find them in your phone book. They can assist you by contacting your creditors and establishing a payment schedule that will fit your budget. If your overdue bills are credit cards, consider transferring your balances to either a credit card you already have or can obtain. This will do a couple of things. It will normally lower your monthly payment and it will eliminate your overdue status. Be extremely careful doing this. The credit card companies you paid off will be using every means they have to get you to use their credit cards again. Cut them up and notify the company to close the account. Look for ways to get extra money just for the purpose of paying your overdue bills. This can be either a temporary part time job or selling something that you can do without. If you own your home and have equity in your property, you may want to consider a bill consolidation loan. While this seems like an easy out, many people start obtaining more debt after they receive the loan since they have some disposable income. There are pros and cons to bill consolidation loans and you would be wise to investigate it thoroughly. If you have exhausted all of the above options, you may have to consider one of the below options. You must remember that filing bankruptcy can stay on your credit history for up to 10 years and can have a devastating effect on your future financial plans. In extreme circumstances, and always as a last resort, consider filing Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection. This allows an individual to setup a repayment plan of between 3 to 5 years to pay off all or part of their debts. You must have sufficient income to permit a portion of it to be used toward your repayment schedule. Another option is Chapter 7 bankruptcy which is the most commonly filed chapter since it can completely eliminate all of your debt except the ones you choose to continue paying. There are exceptions to debts that can be discharged and to what property is exempt from being taken by your creditors. You should discuss any bankruptcy actions with a competent bankruptcy attorney. Only individual’s may file for chapter 7 or chapter 13 bankruptcy. Just because you are behind on your bills doesn’t mean that your bill collectors can do what ever they want to collect their debt. You have rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. It would be a good idea to visit The Federal Trade Commission’s web sitehttp://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/fdc.htm to find out what your legal rights are.
