The Perfect Eating Plan To Lose Weight

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Roy Miller Most “diets” are fads. They claim some special weight loss power. You try them. You lose some pounds and feel good about it. Then you put them back on within a year. That means most diets don’t work. If they don’t help you keep the weight off for more than a year, what good are they? Being fat, thin, and fat again is psychologically damaging. What you really need is healthy eating habits. Any family physician will tell you so. It doesn’t matter what you call it. I recommend something like the Mediterranean Diet, which is has been a good idea since it was “discovered” in the 1950s. But gosh, it isn’t rocket science. Did your mother ever tell you to eat your vegetables? There you go. A healthy diet has lots of fiber, complex carbohydrates, and protein. It deemphasizes red meat, fat, and sugar. Well, duh. You’ve always known that, just like you’ve always known smoking is bad for you. If you eat junk, you’ll feel like junk, and look like a jalopy. Don’t go overboard. You can occasionally have a cookie, or some pizza. But you can’t have Mt. Saint Pizza very often. If you do, you’ll never lose the pounds you want to lose. Cut the calories, lose the weight. Learn to “eat right,” as your Mom probably told you, and you’ll keep that weight off forever. So if you’re looking for the perfect eating plan to lose weight, remember to eat your veggies, and cut out the junk. Who Else Wants To Eliminate Love Handles?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Lindsey Parkes It’s one of the most pressing weight loss problems — how to eliminate love handles. Many people find that those pesky layers of fat around the waist are tough to shift. So what can you do to zap that bothersome bulge? First of all, it’s time to get real about a basic fact of weight loss. Many experts tell us that it’s just not possible to spot-reduce fat in a particular area. So if you need to eliminate love handles, it’s going to have to be part of a ‘whole body’ fat reduction — there’s no magic formula to target one special area of concern. Secondly, think for a moment about how you got that spare tire in the first place — chances are it didn’t appear overnight! Most people find they put on weight gradually and imperceptibly. But while it’s not realistic to expect immediate results, improvements are likely to come from a sustained program that combines diet and exercise as regular routine that’s manageable for you. Here are some suggestions to accompany your diet routine and help you burn more calories than you consume: Drink sufficient water: Water helps to flush out waste products from the body and is an important component in any diet. It can help you feel a sense of fullness and discourage the temptation to overeat. Make sure you consume enough fiber: fresh fruit and vegetables are a good way of increasing the fiber in your diet. Exercise portion control — but don’t be tempted to skip meals as a quick way to reduce your intake: you’ll run the risk of increasing your cravings later in the day. Reduce or eliminate the so-called ‘empty calories’ in your diet: these are food items that are high in calories but which contribute little nutritional value, such as sweetened soda drinks or candy bars. Get into the habit of reading food labels: learn what’s contained per serving in the food you regularly buy. If you want to reshape your body and eliminate love handles, consider the challenge of combining sensible diet with appropriate physical activity. Discuss this with your doctor to find the diet and exercise program that’s right for you. What’s your weight loss goal? Post Partum Depression

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By Shezz P Postpartum depression is a condition suffered by women who have either just recently given birth, or their child may even be 12 to 18 months old before post partum depression surfaces. Post Partum depression is considered to be a type of major depression, and there are a number of ways it can be treated. 70% of women who have given birth suffer from some level of postpartum depression, with some experiencing mild symptoms and others much more severe. The symptoms of post partum or post natal depression may only last for hours or a few days, but for some women the symptoms may last for much longer, in which case will need treatment. Women suffering from post partum depression may be irritable, unable to concentrate, they may feel down and cry for no reason. Other symptoms include loss of sleep, headaches and a general loss of interest in activities. Diagnosis for postpartum depression is similar to diagnosis other forms of depression. The main difference is that with post partum depression is the timing, in that it usually surfaces after giving birth and sometimes may even appear while pregnant. Women with low self esteem are at a higher risk of developing perinatal or post partum depression. Other contributing factors may include having suffered from depression in the past, your support system - single mothers may find motherhood harder not having the fathers support, also hormone changes due to pregnancy and birth may contribute to depression. Becoming pregnant can be such a joy for the soon to be parents, and it can be hard to accept that such a joyful occasion can then bring you down and into depression. The thought of this alone can spiral a women into even more depression, thinking bad about themselves that they are sad at a time of their life when they should be the happiest. There are a lot of adjustments to your lifestyle when becoming a parent and quite often you don’t think about these adjustments until they start to happen. As a mother, you have a whole new life that you are responsible for and you must adjust your life in a way that will benefit your child. Mothers are more than happy to do this for their child, but whether happy or not it can still be hard. Motherhood in general is probably the hardest job in the world, its not just a job you go to at 9am and finish at 5pm, its a 24 hour a day job and its more personal, your whole life is dedicated to this job. This can be very tiring and then if you get a baby that doesn’t sleep too well, then its even more tiring and without your sleep it can be easy to slip into depression. It is believed that some of these radical changes that are needed to support the new infant may play a role in the development of post partum depression. Although very rare, a few women may develop extreme forms of post partum depression which can lead to delusions or other severe mental health problems. This is very rare with only about 0.1% of women experiencing this, and most women only have moderate forms of the disorder. Women that suffer from post partum depression need to visit their doctor to get the correct treatment needed. It is advised to receive treatment for the mothers own benefit as well as the childs. It is also very beneficial if you have the support of family to help you through this rough time and give you a quicker recovery. Fathers Day Tribute - Scarred For Life By A Special Dad

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Kacy Carr The story we all loved to hear as kids was the one about dad that would explain why his face was covered in what we as kids saw as millions and millions and millions of tiny dents and scars of which I will tell you all about nearer to the end of my tribute to the greatest dad a daughter could ever have had. His death at the early age of fifty four came as a shock especially when his appointment for the hospital was to have a plaster cast removed only to have him drop dead in the waiting room. Even though the parting of the ways was sudden the fondest of memories has still held a strong presence in my thoughts over the twenty six years where I was proud to call him my dad. If I could turn the clock back - I would tell him how sorry I was for the times I took him for granted but unfortunately that remorse will be carried to my grave where I know being the good man that he was will be waiting for me at the pearly gates with open arms full of forgiveness. They say the good die young and that is what has helped to ease the resentment I felt towards the man up above for taking dad so soon. Why are dads special - why is my dad more special than all other dads, simple because people see the word special in many different ways. So what do I see different in dad that makes him so special. Dad served 34 years in the army but trouble was brewing up on communist day in Hong Kong where dad was stationed. It was the sound of alarm bells that set the evacuation into motion for the families living outside the barracks to return to the camp immediately. Eight of us were bundled into the back of a 3 ton army wagon with pillows for protection and ordered to keep our heads down of which we obeyed - the Chinese riot mobs were appearing up from the trenches that lined the road back to the barracks fully armed with all sorts of killing tools - twenty one rocks entered the wagon on the journey back to camp. The convoy of trucks that followed behind and stopped - now stood burning wrecks. If a barrage of boulders were hurtled into the back of the wagon - just what kind of state was the front of that vehicle in and that of the driver. There were no medals of bravery awarded to the driver when recognition was delivered by the army superiors for his act of heroism. The reason why was because he should not have been driving at the time, so all the pats on the back went to the wrong man sitting up front. I often wonder to this day would we all have got out alive if the boot was on the other foot if those drivers did not break the rules. The result of that fearful day was a truck with no windscreen a driver with no face and eight living bodies that lived to tell the tale - so now you have the ending to my story why those millions and millions and millions of dents and scars, scarred us for life with special memories of dear old dad. Been scarred physically http://www.spotthepimple.com Live and laugh http://www.jesterminute.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Kacy_Carr http://EzineArticles.com/?Fathers-Day-Tribute—-Scarred-For-Life-By-A-Special-Dad&id=216890 alternate uses for zolpidem ambien work ativan dependency generic ambien zolpidem

What Santa Knows About Marketing-

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Charlie Cook WHAT SANTA KNOWS ABOUT MARKETING… What’s that ringing sound you hear at this time of year? It’s the sound of store registers ringing up the sales generated by Santa Claus. Just because he’s old, overweight, long haired and unshaven and dresses funny, don’t overlook his marketing success.Santa is a marketing expert and you can become one, too, if you follow his marketing methods. What’s that you say? You don’t believe in Santa Claus or you don’t celebrate Christmas? It’s true that Santa may be mostly mythical, but ask almost anybody who Santa is and what he does, and they’ll tell you. And there are millions of children who are convinced he’s real. So put your doubts about Santa aside for a moment and take a look at why hes so good at marketing. A. Knows How to Be UniqueWhether it is his trademark red suit, his unconventional transportation, his belly laugh or his occupation, Santa is different. He’s one of a kind, and makes quite an impression, one your unlikely to forget. B. Gets Free PublicityHe’s a master at getting press. He’s mentioned in the media constantly during the winter holidays. Many songs, movies and books have been written about him. C. Is Customer FocusedWhile everyone knows about Santa, his marketing isn’t focused on his credentials. He rarely talks about how long hes been in business nor does he bore people with long discussions of his work processes. Instead, Santa makes a huge effort to learn what people want. It is estimated that each year over a million letters are sent to Santa. Santa supplements this effort by appearing in thousands of shopping malls around the country, listening to an average of nine thousand children per mall. He does all this just to learn what his customers want. D. Gives Something AwayWhile most of the presents under the tree are from family, including the annual fruitcake from Aunt Bernice, typically at least one gift bears Santas name. How can you not love someone who gives so many presents away each year and whose only expectation is a couple of cookies and a glass of milk? E. Knows What He Is SellingSanta knows what he is selling, and its not just games and toys. Santa sells hope, whether it is for the latest video game, a warm sweater or happiness. Use these five ideas to market more like Santa all year long. 1. Clarify how you and your firm are unique, and what it is that separates you from the crowd. You don’t need to put on a red suit or slide down chimneys. Define yourself by the problems you solve, the expertise you provide and what your customers say about you. 2. Get media attention for your business, not just during holidays but all year round. Sometimes imaginative stunts like appearing in a sleigh help. 3. Ask your prospects what they want and then provide services and products that give them what they’ve asked for. The better you understand their concerns, the better services or products youll provide. 4. Give something away. It could be an article, a report, a book or a workshop. Use your free offer to prompt people to contact you and demonstrate your expertise. It works for Santa and it can work for you. 5. Know what you are selling. Your products and services bring in the money, but what do they stand for? What do they represent to your clients? Sell your prospects on achieving their objectives and dreams and deliver with tangible results they can appreciate. Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, market like Santa and you too, can have many happy clients this and every season, without having to squeeze down a single sooty chimney. Quilts and Quilting - Make a ‘Sentimental Quilt’

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Annabel Baker This article gives a few hints on how to make a quilt with a minimum set of equipment and for minimum cost. We can use all the up-to-date equipment such as special cutters and cutting mats, expensive fabric and sewing machines that will do much of the quilt for us, but I think this takes the fun and skill out of this hobby. The original idea behind quilts and quilting was that they provided an inexpensive way to produce something very worthwhile and ultimately valuable. So why dont we use the traditional approach which will keep costs to a minimum by using just a tape measure or ruler, needle and thread and any fabric we have to hand. In fact I think the loveliest of all quilts is what I call my Sentimental Quilt which is made from the old fabrics of childrens outgrown clothes, old summer dresses, curtains from our first home, my husbands old ties, in fact any fabric that I have hoarded over the years. There is no greater satisfaction than lying beneath a quilt that holds so many memories. Make sure that all the fabrics you are going to use in your quilt have been prewashed in non-biological detergent, rinsed well and ironed before you start cutting them out. Many fabrics, especially 100% cottons will almost always shrink during this process. Imagine what would happen to your finished quilt if this process had not been done at the outset of making your quilt. Your finished washed and shrunken quilt would be a disaster. If your quilt design is being made in multi hexagon shapes (or English patchwork, as it as become known ) or if your quilt is going to be a crazy design using small amounts of different fabrics, then choosing fabric can be done as the quilt is made. It is more fun to have lots of different pieces of fabric when making this type of quilt. However, if you want to include set blocks and designs in your quilt it is advantageous to calculate how much fabric you are going to use. Nothing is more frustrating than nearly finishing your quilt only to find you are a few blocks short. Best wishes Annabel http://quilts-and-quilting.blogspot.com/ Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Annabel_Baker http://EzineArticles.com/?Quilts-and-Quilting—Make-a-Sentimental-Quilt&id=200873 ambien cr with prescription discount zolpidem ambien fedex delivery ambien sex free ambien cr

Job Search Lessons from Before The Super Bowl

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

By Jeff Altman Every year, football teams coming to training camp in August to prepare for their season, They will play 4 or 5 exhibition and 16 regular season games to determine which teams will meet in the playoffs in one and done elimination for the opportunity of playing in The Super Bowl. What lessons can we take from these athletes and their experiences that we can apply to job hunting? First of all, being a great athlete is no guaranty of being successful. Professional sports are littered with great athletes who have never one a championship. As a result, its important to remember to surround yourself with a great team. A team you can excel with and a coach (boss) who can be a good leader for you and others. You will play the way you practice. Teams dont just show up on Sunday. They practice and practice hard in order to develop their skills within a system. They work hard to be victorious. How do you prepare for your job search? Do you just show up at the interview, feel out the interviewer, wing it and expect to win? Do you actually prepare yourself for interviewing with that particular opponent (interviewer) by learning about the firm? Have you ever Googled the name of the interviewer to find out about their background? Each game has a certain number of plays you will be in for. Play hard on every down and execute your responsibilities at 100%.. Each interview will consist of a fixed number of questions. Some of them may seem stupid to you or repeat questions youve been asked on several other interviews. Your job is to execute the plays by answering questions with accuracy and with passion for what you do. You wont be perfect on every play. You will even loose some important games. Great teams learn from their defeats. They practice in order to get better. They work hard to become excellent. They may lick their wounds for a while but they know there is a next play and next game in order to go to the playoffs. This kind of resilience is important for you as a job hunter. After all, not every resume youll send out will result in an interview, let alone a job. When you dont get a job you really want, do you collapse into a cocoon for a week or do you find out what went wrong and what was right in order to learn from the experience? Champions watch film of their games to analyze their performance. What do you do after an interview to review? Take coaching. Some people interpret coaching as criticism. In some respects, thats tue. Being told how to improve is a criticism, but it is also a suggestion for how to be excellent (and for you managers, perpetual criticism without praise results in your staff tuning you out). The poet, Rumi, writes: Pray for a tough instructor to hear, and act and stay with you. Dont get your opponent riled up. Being controversial draws attention to yourself and awakens the dragon. Dragons are always safer when they are asleep than when they are awakened. Dont gove the interviewers any reason to be critical of you. Ah, yes, theres one more. Your time as a champion is fleeting. Someone will always be there trying to take your crown. Enjoy every moment of life. Life is fleeting and one day, youll die. When you look back, do you want to have regrets about how youve used your precious time on this planet or at the end, do you want to acknowledge that youve used all of your energy well Jeff Altman Concepts in Staffing jeffaltman@cisny.com 2006 all rights reserved. Criminal Law: Should the Illegal Importation of Tobacco and Cigarettes be a Criminal Offense?

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

By Thomas Gallagher Introduction The illegal importation of tobacco and cigarettes costs the United Kingdom billions every year in taxes, yet it is not, under a certain threshold, a criminal offence. This article will explore the motivations behind the policy of keeping the illegal importation of tobacco and cigarettes a civil matter, by posing the question as to whether the illegal importation of tobacco and cigarettes should be a criminal offence? Joining the European Union has meant that the United Kingdom no longer has sovereign rights in determining what is, or is not, an acceptable allowance. A good place to start will, therefore, entail a basic examination of what the law says regarding cigarette importation focusing on the guidelines that currently are in force today. What will become apparent from this will concern the fact that the guidelines are just that, there are no hard and fast rules in relation to the amount. There is, however, a mechanism in place to prevent people from importing excessive amounts in order to gain an economic advantage. The main crux of this article will focus upon the current method of distinguishing what cigarettes are for personal use, and what cigarettes are for commercial gain. Finally, the discussion will focus upon whether the classification of importing low level cigarettes and tobacco for commercial gain should be a criminal offence, and, therefore, install the deference that was once afforded to the English legal system. Current Law on Importation of Cigarettes and Tobacco into the United Kingdom When the United Kingdom decided to join the European Economic Community (EU) there were certain rights and obligations that befell every citizen who resided within the United Kingdom. As part of a package of rights, free movement of goods was to be guaranteed. This entailed goods being purchased within one member state, and excise duty being paid on the goods, being allowed to pass through the borders of the member states without any other levies being placed upon them. This provision was meant to harmonise the tax levied on products in different member states. This initiative has failed to materialise in relation to tobacco products. The UK’s rate of Tobacco Duty is considerably higher than in most of the rest of Europe (the TMA puts the average price of 20 cigarettes on the continent at around 2.40) and other parts of the world. This has led to many smokers in the United Kingdom going to the European mainland and purchasing their cigarettes there. It has also increased smuggling for commercial purposes, as the rewards can be substantial. Article 9 of Directive 92/12/EEC sets out guidelines for national governments on quantities considered not to be of commercial volumes. The government immediately issued guidelines which stated that only 800 cigarettes and 1 kilo of tobacco could be imported into the United Kingdom under these guidelines. There was a wave of protests from different sources, with high level EU officials claiming that the United Kingdom was not cooperating with the spirit of the EU by denying its citizens the rights that they had agreed to afford them once the Treaty was signed. In October 2001 Single Market Commissioner Frits Bolkestein launched an action stating The commission is concerned that the controls currently being applied at UK ports and airports, and the sanctions being applied when UK excise duty law is breached, may breach the EU rules which give travellers the right to buy abroad. The United Kingdom reviewed its policy following many cases that went as high as the Court of Appeal. The guidelines now state that 3200 cigarettes are now allowable and 3 kilos of tobacco. Customs and Excise officials were still given the authority to challenge individuals if they believed that the cigarettes and tobacco were purchased for commercial purposes. The problem still remains, however, in distinguishing what cigarettes are for personal use, and what cigarettes are for commercial gain. Methods Employed to Distinguish Cigarettes for Personal Use and Those Purchased for Commercial Purposes The EU has set out guidelines for what it believes are reasonable quantities for personal consumption, to distinguish from commercial volumes. A traveller with amounts over the guidelines could be allowed through if they can prove it is for personal consumption, for example at a wedding party. Amounts below the guidelines could lead to enforcement action if, for example, the same person was coming through several times a week in an attempt to build up commercial levels of stock. It has been asserted that UK customs could be applying the rules too harshly. It has been stated that 80% of smuggled cigarettes comes in via container, and the detection rate for tobacco coming in by foot or car is about 3% of the remaining 20%. The aim is to detect 10%, which means for all the money spent and irritation caused, just 2% of smuggled tobacco will be detected. Why is the Government tackling shoppers with relatively small amounts? If Customs believe that people who are carrying such small amounts of these products are engaging in a commercial venture, thus avoiding the duty, then surely this should be a criminal offence. The Criminality of Tobacco Smuggling For one to understand the reasoning behind not classifying tobacco smuggling as a criminal activity, one first needs to understand some basic principals about the English legal system. In civil cases, one must convince a judge or jury on the balance of probabilities. This system allows for a lower standard of proof. If a judge or jury is not convinced, on the balance of probabilities by the evidence that has been presented, then that the tobacco is not for commercial purposes, then they can decide in favour of the customs. In criminal law, the standard of proof is beyond all reasonable doubt. The customs must prove, therefore, that the tobacco was for commercial purposes, and will have to produce much more in evidence to prove this assertion. There is also another far more cynical policy behind this classification. There will be no legal aid granted to an individual when fighting a seizure order on their goods. The Crown, however, will employ a solicitor and barrister for the court hearing. This strikes at the very heart of any judicial notion of a right to a fair trial provided under Article 6 of the European Convention of Human Rights. The Crown argues that representation can be sought by any individual; however, when the stakes are so low, and the legal costs will outweigh the actual cost of the goods that have been seized, one might question the productiveness of pursuing such a course of action. Customs and Excise are getting the best of both worlds in that the policy of keeping this a civil matter law allows them to assume your guilt on the balance of probabilities, yet the punishments they inflict are worst than criminals going through the criminal justice system. No wonder the British legal system is being brought into disrepute. Conclusion There is no denying the fact that the aggressive procedures employed by the Customs and Excise are saving the government millions, if not billions in tax. The question still remains as to whether this is being done legally. The Court has confirmed that those who bring back large quantities of alcohol and tobacco must accept an evidential burden to provide a satisfactory explanation, the absence of which may well cause Customs to conclude that they are not for own use but held for a commercial purpose, yet this reverses the evidentiary burden in a perverse way. Those who assert a state of affairs have an evidentiary burden to prove the fact that they are asserting, not the other way round. The contemptuous policy of defining this cause of action as civil is not only perverse as it is vicious, it has resulted in Customs & Excise, who one would normally associate with the Ambulance service and the Police force, now viewed with open contempt. More seriously, many people now feel too intimidated to travel freely. It reminds one of The Peoples Republic of East Germany. The only way to restore credibility to the English legal system is to reclassify this specific action as criminal, thus allowing all of the safeguards afforded to society in the process. Meaning Of Dreams In Chinese Medicine

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

By Henry Fong Do dreams carry any meaning? Does it tell you something about the future? What do dreams mean, especially recurring bad ones? What about pleasant dreams or scarry dreams? I get asked this quite a bit but I am of not much help as this is not something that I am familiar with. In fact intepretating dreams is a separate skill by itself. I read a book recently on Chinese Medicine and there is a section on how dreams can assist in Chinese medical diagnosis. This is from a section in the Yellow Emperors Medicine Classic called the Miraculous Pivot. I find it extremely interesting and I would like to share some of their analysis with you.
